Expectations of Digital Arts 210

First and foremost I want to say how excited I am to start my first semester at The University of Tampa. I am a transfer student from HCC and the road to UT has been a fairly long journey. I graduated high school in 2002 and at first I honestly had no intention of going to college. After a few years of coaching tumbling in all-star cheerleading I came to the realization that while I loved coaching I was not passionate enough about it to turn it into a career. What changed you asked? Well coaching left me with a lot of spare time on my hands to explore new hobbies, one of which was photography. I found myself consumed with taking pictures! It's all I wanted to do, and I knew that it was something that I could spend my life doing.

In 2007 I enrolled at the International Academy of Design and Technology. I really didn't look much in to the school's accreditation, which would later come back to bite in the...well you know. It was there that I met a professor that had graduated from UT with a degree in Graphic Design with a concentration in photography. When I started working for the Photography Department as the Assistant Studio Manager this particular professor and I spent a lot of time discussing the industry, and through these discussions I realized that very few photographers make it in the industry without having another skill the can offer; be it videography, graphic design, ect. My mind was made up after I got my degree in photography I would get a degree in graphic design. At least that was the plan. I later found out after talking to the Admissions Office at UT that none of my credits would transfer; needless to say I was heartbroken. If I wanted a degree from UT I would have to start all over. So I spent the last two years at HCC redoing the general education classes that I had already taken.

So, here I am in 2012 in my first semester at UT, and I couldn't be happier. I am extremely excited about all my classes this semester. In Beginning Digital Arts 210, the class which required me to create this blog, I am really looking forward to delving more in to programs like Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign. I have played with these programs a little bit on my own but look forward to having some formal training with them. I am also really looking forward to learning a little bit of coding. My goal is that by the end of this semester this blog will be filled with well done work that will serve as a foundation of a hopefully long and successful career in graphic design.

Cheers,
